Lynn Dunbar
Painting is a passion, and I choose subjects that have meaning to me. Whether it is the rolling vistas of Kentucky and Southern Indiana, the flowers I just picked from my garden, or a member of my family, I find inspiration in the connection I feel with a painting. Ask me which is my favorite painting, and I will usually reply with the last one I completed. I enjoy hiking, biking and the natural beauty of the landscape. Painting allows me to interpret the natural beauty of nature. I enjoy painting on location with the sun on my back and the wind in my hair. My patrons often tell me that my paintings remind them of a place in their childhood. “Everything we do throughout our day influences our moods and actions. Viewing art can set the tune for an entire day. I believe that people should surround themselves with art that makes them feel good and emits positive energy. A good piece of art can take us out of ourselves and transport us to a different season, place or time.” After graduating from Purdue I was an art director in advertising for many years before picking up a paint brush. Painting has been therapeutic for me in dealing with the loss of my son to childhood cancer. I donate a portion of my proceeds from the sale of each painting to Childhood Cancer Research. Over the past few years, I have been able to study with Wolf Kahn in Vermont and Skip Whitcomb in Colorado. I am a member of the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association as well as the Oil Painters of America.
