The Bats
The five middle-aged women in The Bats, a “mostly female” band of wild women and song, have put together something unique: a rock ‘n’ roll cabaret act. Their material ranges from comic to sublime, from Sheryl Crow to Christine Lavin, with a growing list of original tunes. They sing of love lost, weight gained, and bargains bought. They even tap dance to Wild Thing. No other band has quite their range of talents, age-related physical limitations, or hormone fluctuations!
Vocalists Missy Johnston, Marilyn Robie, and Susan Thomas blend beautiful harmonies into entertaining and hilarious songs and patter. Melanie Johnson, a veteran rock guitarist and songwriter, provides vocals and shy enthusiasm. Marianne Sherman adds earthy humor and a booming bass line. And, three very brave men – Craig Cornwell on drums, Jim Gleason on guitar, and Harold Sherman on keyboards – fight for sexual equality as they back up these five feisty women.
